This is the "early show".

Original transfer from analog master reel to DAT was done circa 1997. DAT transfer to CDR was done circa 2000. This conversion to FLAC was done in August 2009.  No equalization or sound manipulation has been done to this recording.

This recording has no cuts or edits (except possibly the omission of "Souvenir"). This show went out live over the air not only on WNEW New York (which did the transmission and recording), but several other northeast FM stations. The show has also been re-broadcast many times, and many different recorded sources exist from the FM broadcasts, a few of which I have. It's interesting to note that on the rebroadcasts, an edited version of the show is played and although the re-broadcasts don't cut out any music, they do cut out some portions of Billy Joel speaking, as well as some audience and the original radio commentary. On the filp side, some of the rebroadcasts close with the song "Souvenir", which does not exist here.

So, why would the closing song of "Souvenir" not be on the master reel to reel tape? There are two schools of thought to this question. 1) It was never actually played at this show and the version that has been aired in subsequent re-broadcasts is from a different show (Billy Joel did play a 3 night stint at The Bottom Line) or 2) The reel needed to be changed to a second reel to capture "Souvenir", and the person who had access to the master back in the late 1990's was only able to transfer the first reel to DAT.
